About

Hi! My name is Katherine but, you can call me Kat. This blog is dedicated to sharing my journey into backpacking and all things outdoors with a goal of inspiring others to get outside. Also, I have a terrible memory so really this blog is to also keep my brain working!

I will use this space to share my experiences on trail and provide an in-depth look at what it is like to be a true noob at backpacking. I will also be sharing my honest gear reviews with things like cost, weight, durability, and accessibility in mind.

Want to get into backpacking, but don’t know where to start? Well you are in the right place! I am sure I will make mistakes along the way, but that just means you don’t have to.

About Me

Well, you already know my name… so besides that I grew up in and around Ottawa, but currently live in Toronto. I have a beautiful dog named Spud, I’m the middle child of 4 kids and I have been a vegetarian for over 7 years!

Growing up, my family never had a lot of money so going on crazy extravagant adventures and vacations was never an option. Luckily, some of my youngest memories include exploring Fitzroy Provincial Park on summer break with my family, sitting around the campfire with our dogs by our side.

I was also fortunate enough to attend summer camp for a few summers. During my time as a camper and four summers as a staff member I really found my love for nature. I got to learn and teach how to canoe, how to identify different species of plants, how to build a fire, and so many other great soft and hard skills.

Beautiful sunsets at my old camp.
My Future Adventures

This summer I plan on hiking

  • Highland Trail (Algonquin National Park) 35km
  • Western Uplands Trail (Algonquin National Park) 88km
  • La Cloche Silhouette Trail (Killarney National Park) 79km

plus some other fun day trips!

I also hope to plan some fall/winter trips but nothing is concrete yet! In 2022 I am planning to thru hike the Appalachian Trail.

Well I think that’s enough about me, I hope you will join me in my journey to the outdoors.
